Our sister in Christ at St. Ignatius Loyola, Martha Casanova was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, stage 4 in 2012. While she was battling the disease, she missed several days of work, and the rental debt increased to the point when she was unable to pay. The eviction notice became another nightmare on top of the advancement of her disease. The Tepeyac Mission initiated a campaign to find a home, or “roof”, for Martha in 2013. The first idea was to buy a trailer and have the community assist her in adapting the trailer to her condition. Many people offered not only a monetary contribution but also manpower help. By the time the money was collected, her health condition aggravated and she was on the care of hospice. It was impossible at this point for her to live by herself. Her desire was to travel to her native Colombia to be around her mother and family. The money collected was given to her to travel, and to spend some time with her loved ones whom she hadn’t seen in several decades. She passed away two months later. God has her in His reign of peace surrounded with Divine Love.
