CASITA / LITTLE HOUSE
Palm Beach County
We interpret those projects that have generated intense participation, and satisfaction for carrying out the service to the poor, as truly heavenly scent. That is the case of the Project Casita in 2014-2015. A Colombian family was homeless for several months. The Mission helped them to find and pay for a hotel room, while they saved some money to pay for an apartment. When the resources to pay for a hotel room came to an end, the family was ready to sleep in their car! A Parishioner, Teresa, came to the Sunday Mass at Saint Ignatius asking if someone could move to their home where she lived with her mother under the menace from people around their poor neighborhood taking advantage, and trying to break into the house. They looked for having a way to show that they did not live alone. That was the heaven-sent situation for the homeless family. They moved in the following day, and the Tepeyac Mission came to help Teresa and her mother put some security around the house and make some repairs and adaptations that the house needed. The “Casita” was home for this family for almost a year until they could stand on their feet. Teresa and her mother considered that the work is done by a good number of volunteers at their house, for several weekends, was sufficient payment for the room. Glory be to God.
